More recently, at Consumer Electronics & Photo Expo 2013, Creative showed its new products, including new speakers, one of which has already come to us for an overview.
The Sound BlasterAxx SBX 20 is a wireless speaker system with headset functions and a very interesting and attractive appearance. As a wireless interface, the SBX 20 uses Bluetooth version 2.1 with support for EDR technology, but I suggest discussing all the intricacies in order.
In addition to the wireless connection, the speaker also supports a wired connection, on the back there is a standard 3.5 mm mini jack connector, next to which is another mini jack, which is used as a line input. The column receives power through the microUSB port. By the way, a column for this will be enough even a USB port of a laptop. In addition, you can find a hole in the back of the subwoofer, below the button that needs to be clamped in order to place the column in pairing mode.
Creative designers did a good job and they got a very stylish and nice device. The touch control panel looks especially impressive.
With this panel, you can adjust the volume or turn it off altogether, you can also take calls, turn the microphone on and off. In addition, the front panel carried switches corporate technologies: Voice Focus, Noise Reduction and SBX Smart Volume.
By the way, about Creative's proprietary technologies, there are a whole lot of them in Sound BlasterAxx SBX 20. I will briefly try to describe each of them and, perhaps, we will start with technologies that are designed to improve the sound from the speakers:
- SBX Smart Volume - will save you from sudden volume jumps (for example, an explosion in another action movie will not make you jump off the couch from fright);
- SBX Surround - creates a surround sound effect;
- SBX Crystalizer - used to enhance the high and low frequencies;
- SBX Dialog Plus - and this option allows you to enhance the sound of the voice, which can also be useful for movie lovers;
- SBX Bass - well, where are you today without bass boost technology?
All the above listed technologies are aimed at improving the sound, but Sound BlasterAxx SBX 20 has not only speakers, but also microphones, and not simple ones, but omnidirectional ones. This type of microphones allows to achieve high-quality audio capture with a coverage of almost 360 degrees. So, for microphones, as well as for speakers, Creative engineers also found some cool technologies.
- Noise Reduction - fights noise, and does it quite successfully;
- Acoustic Echo Cancellation - this thing is great for getting rid of the echo;
- Voice Focus - as mentioned above, the speaker has omnidirectional microphones, but the ability to receive sound from all directions is not always appropriate. Just for such cases, Voice Focus technology is needed, it allows you to send a microphone to a certain part of the space, thus cutting off unwanted directions;
- VoiceFX - allows you to change the voice in real time;
- Smart Volume is a technology for stabilizing the volume of sound capture (in other words, if you speak in a whisper, the system will automatically increase the sensitivity of the microphone, and on the contrary, if you scream at the top of your neck, the sensitivity of the microphone will decrease)
Well, the list, of course, is impressive, but the sound that the speaker gives out was not particularly impressive. Now I will try to explain why. Firstly, the maximum volume level is low, however, it is worth noting that the speaker fulfills it at 100%, the speakers do not wheeze and rattle at full volume. The following drawback can be called not very expressive low frequencies. Bass is sorely lacking and the built-in option SBX Bass does not change the situation much. Is that the cable connection makes the sound a little cleaner. However, it is worth considering that the Sound BlasterAxx SBX 20 is rather a solution for replacing laptop speakers and is more suitable for watching movies or talking on Skype, especially since the SBX 20 has excellent microphones with a great noise reduction system. The price of this stylish device varies around 6000-6500 rubles, which, in my opinion, quite a lot.
