This project, which ended last year and is about to fall into the hands of users, is close to the title of the personal music revolution, or, at least, seriously shake up existing players and the price level. What does the creators offer us?
Many of us listen to music. Someone uses online radio stations, someone services like Spotify, someone has a personal collection of music in mp3 or even Flac. Most often the personal computer becomes the single center responsible for the reproduction of this whole economy, which is not always convenient. Different manufacturers offer their solutions to this problem, usually looking like a whole CD player / amplifier and worth it as not the worst computer gaming computer.
The creators of Olive ONE - decided to change this overnight. It’s worth starting with design. The small but weighty disk made of aluminum and glass with a sloping top is surprising in size: only 23 cm in diameter and 4 cm tall in the thickest place with a weight of 2.7 kg. The top panel contains a large 7-inch touch screen for control.
The device can play music in most popular formats: MP3, FLAC, ALAC, WAV and AIFF. Understands Spotify, Pandora, YouTube and other online services, is friends with popular cloud storages. There is support for social networks, allowing the device to better recognize your tastes, and you - to find out all the news of the music world and even communicate with your favorite artists. Developers will receive an SDK and will be able to extend the capabilities of Olive ONE. All this can be controlled both from the screen and from the iPhone / Android phones.
Special service will allow you to access your music collection via the Internet from anywhere in the world, and broadcasting can occur in high resolution up to 192 kHz / 24 bit. In this case, Olive ONE versions with 1 and 2 terabyte hard drives will come in handy.
In general, the technical part worked very well. The PCM5142 from Burr-Brown is responsible for the sound, separate amplifiers delivering 32 watts of power per channel with a load of 8 Ω. It supports all the necessary wireless technologies in the face of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, there is support for DLNA / UPnP, Miracast and WiFi Direct.
The developers promise that they will not stop at this, there is a round column on which OO can be simply put on top, a LED backlight module, wall mount and many other interesting projects.
The best part about this is the price. Olive ONE is available on for only $ 500, the price of the version with a 1 TB disk and 2 TB will be 600 and 700 dollars, which is noticeably cheaper than most similar devices.
