Headphone Review Consonance v2 by Fischer Audio

1 Main Picture

Fischer Audio, perhaps, doesn’t require any special presentation, their headphones hold high the price-to-quality ratio bar, offering excellent sound in its price range. Their Fundamentals series is especially attractive in this regard, I already wrote about some representatives of this line - Yuppie and Gryphon, it's time to tell you about the remake of the classic Consonance model, which received the v2 suffix.

Consonance, highly regarded by reviewers, was published several years ago, becoming one of several models that laid the foundation for the Fundamentals line, which made Fischer popular outside of Russia. Naturally, over time, she demanded an update, taking into account the development of technology.

The second version retained the first handwriting, complementing it with a more modern design and a number of other improvements. By the way, Consonance v2 is one of the most expensive of all the line models sold now, the average price on Yandex.Market at the time of writing was 2,000 rubles, but the change in exchange rates did its dirty job and in the near future the price tag will crawl upwards. Therefore, I recommend quickly grabbing a box for yourself while the attraction of unprecedented generosity still lasts. I would advise to overpay a little and buy them in the company store, so that you probably don’t have to worry about the warranty.

Package and Delivery

The box is made in the style of the latest Fischer models: white cardboard with an orange stripe, the design is very restrained, it looks good, as the model is the most expensive in the line, packed it with all care. Having removed the outer packaging, it is necessary to open the inner cardboard box, it will be a plastic case, in which the headphones can already be seen. The last effort is to uncover this case by sliding its outer part to the side. Unpacking this doll, you get access to everything that comes in the package.

3 Acessories

In addition to the “Consonants” itself, you will receive: 3 pairs of interchangeable nozzles of different sizes (the fourth one is put on the headphones), a nice bag for carrying and an adapter for old smartphones that are incompatible with the modern pinout of the headset. This adapter, by the way, is really rare, so it's great that the Fishers thought about it.

Taking into account the price, on this item "Konsy" get a solid top five.

Design and wearing comfort

The appearance of the headphones is very unusual. This is perhaps the most "high-tech" headphones from all that I have seen. The inner case is made of silver aluminum, on top is a complex-shaped colored overlay. Available with white, black and orange colors, each of them is different in its own way and looks interesting. There is a ventilation hole on the outside of the headphones. Build quality is excellent, no complaints about it arise.

The cable comes out at an angle of 90 °, the outlet is protected by a plastic insert from possible kinks. On the same box is the labeling of channels.

4 Overview

By itself, the cable is good, it is quite thick, in silicone braid, reinforced with Kevlar thread. Because of this, it is almost not tangled and does not harden in the cold, and is also very durable. Of the minuses - it makes a little noise from friction about clothes. I use a BTE, this allows to level this problem. The splitter and plug are reliable, so you don’t have to worry about cable life.

On the cable of the right earpiece is a one-button headset with a microphone.

Complete nozzles are good, they are made of soft silicone and provide comfortable wearing even for a long time. Sound insulation is typical of this form factor.

Sound

The following equipment was used for listening:

  • Yulong DA8 as a DAC
  • Yulong A28 as an amplifier
  • Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2013 as a source
  • Fidelia as a player
  • Shanling M3 and Fiio X5 as portable players
  • VSonic Gr01 and HiFiMan Re600 as headphones for comparison
  • High-resolution recordings in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)

Before listening to the headphones were heated for 48 hours.

5 Rear View

Consonance v2 - headphones are typically bassists, their sound is dark, but you shouldn’t get scared right away, the creators avoided most of the shortcomings of dark headphones.

The bass for this price range is simply awesome. He is deep (though not beyond), powerful, with a good body. Headphones control it well, conveying texture and details. If you do not take into account the price, you can blame the easy lack of speed, but taking into account the cost - it is sufficient. Any electronic music, good live recordings of acoustic instruments - this is the strong point of these headphones. For example, I listen to the Juno Reactor, Glitch Mob and Die Antwoord with them for the third day, although I am generally cool about electronic music.

The mids are slightly veiled bass. They are not bad, have good resolution, but because of the amount of bass, they are not always audible. It does not have such disastrous consequences as, for example, in Meze Deco, but the brutal and high-speed genres, not accented on the low bands, are not for the Consonances.

6 Side by side

HF is also slightly relegated to the background so as not to create a tiring sound with a V-shaped frequency response, thanks to which you can listen to the headphones for a long time without getting tired. Of course, there is no sharpening and / or sibilance here.

Compatibility

Headphones, of course, are designed for use with simple sources, so they play well with inexpensive players, tablets and smartphones. The main condition for the source is good bass control, which can unlock the potential of headphone data in this area.

7 With Fiio X5

Headset quality is not bad, the other person hears you well, but in a noisy environment it is better to bring the microphone closer to your mouth.

conclusions

Ideal headphones for fans of electronic music in particular, and bass in general. Very good bass is combined in them with a good study of the rest of the frequency range. There are some features of sound that are typical for most “bass” headphones, so you cannot call them completely universal, but the sound was thought of just like that, so I can't say that this is a “flaw”. Taking into account the price, Consonance v2 is one of the best solutions for bassheads, and I could even recommend them as a second pair to the collection for more neutral models.
