Headphone Bullets 6mm review by Fischer Audio

1 Main Picture

Silver Bullets headphones from Fischer Audio were popular not only at home in Russia, but also abroad. Their even, almost monitor sound combined with an unusual design earned them popularity among music lovers, but last year the model was updated: new, smaller caliber and radically different in character replaced the classic “bullets”.

I don’t know why the company decided to completely rework one of its most popular models from scratch, but the fact remains: the new Bullets are not so much a continuation, but rather a rebirth of a popular model of the past. The headphones use a new, reduced radiator with a diameter of 6 mm, as well as a fully recalculated acoustic chamber. Despite the reduction in the size of the diffuser, this did not lead to the expected degradation of sound. On the contrary, the lower weight of the membrane allows the headphones to reach higher speeds and it is better to regain the details. By the way, miniature dynamic emitters are gaining great popularity lately, apparently, the technologies already allow receiving their advantages (speed, detail) and leveling the flaws (primarily weakened bass).

2 Box

The price of the headphones at the time of the release was 2,200 rubles, but the fluctuations in the rate caused the price of them to rise in the near future.

Package and Delivery

And again here is a white cardboard box with a purple stripe, again a minimalist design and discreet colors. By design, the packaging coincides with the Fischer Audio Consonance box, which I described in the last review.

3 Acessories

In addition to the “bullets” themselves, you will receive three pairs of single-flange silicone nozzles of different sizes (some are already worn on the headphones), a pair of two-flange nozzles of medium size, an unusual clip for attaching the wire, and a carrying case on a snake for carrying. In general, not bad for inexpensive headphones.

Design and wearing comfort

The appearance of Bullets has become a little less similar to the cartridges compared to the first version, but still retained recognizable features. A round metal case with a characteristic annular groove near a slightly depressed bottom, on which the company logo is applied. There is also a hole for acoustic ventilation. Closer to the sound guides there are colored rings marking the left (blue) and right (red) channels. The assembly level is magnificent, everything is adjusted very clearly, and the metal immediately inspires confidence.

4 Both

The cable is similar to that used in Consonance v2, rather thick in cross section, in silicone insulation and also reinforced with Kevlar. It does not get tangled and does not harden in the cold, but the microphone effect (the rustling of cable friction on clothes) is quite noticeable. This is primarily due to the fact that the headphones are quite light and sit very deep in the ear. Zausnaya landing and complete clip allow you to actually reduce this problem to nothing.

The splitter unit and plug are plastic; the place where the cable comes out of the headphones is also protected by plastic inserts. Of course, it would be great if they were metal, it would look in the same style as the headphones themselves, but, apparently, it would not allow to achieve the desired value.

5 Overview

Complete nozzles are pleasantly soft, you can wear headphones for an indefinitely long time, the small weight and size of the headphones also contribute to comfort, they are well suited for people with small ears. Sound insulation on an average level, for a very noisy environment, headphones are not suitable.

Sound

The following equipment was used for listening:

  • Yulong DA8 as a DAC
  • Yulong A28 as an amplifier
  • Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2013 as a source
  • Fidelia as a player
  • Shanling M3 and Fiio X5 as portable players
  • VSonic Gr01 and HiFiMan Re600 as headphones for comparison
  • High-resolution recordings in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)

Before listening to the headphones were heated for 48 hours.

It’s hard to call the new “bullets” a continuation of the previous model, they sound different, they are more palatable, and we don’t have to talk about monitorability and evenness in their case.

6 Side by side

The bass is very good for its price, it is assembled, detailed, its texture is very good, the headphones lack a bit of the deepest sub bass, but on the whole, the low-frequency range is very pleasing.

The mids are fairly smooth, with good detail, although they lack some speed, so the headphones will not work for the brutal genres. The vocals, oddly enough, are quite successful for Bullets, and the vocalist most often turns out to be pushed forward in an imaginary sound stage. Many compositions really benefit from this.

The upper frequencies are a bit uneven. At the same time, they are slightly weakened, but sibilants appear on some tracks. Actually, given the price of headphones, this cannot be called a serious drawback, but it reinforces their taste status.

7 With X5

The sound of the headphones is clearly not universal. For some bands and genres, it fits great, it seems that it cannot be better, for other Bullets 6mm are not the best choice. Categorically, they are not suitable for brutal types of metal. On the other hand, headphones are recommended to connoisseurs of electronic music, vocal compositions, not heavy rock, here their bass and manner of voice will be most welcome. In other cases, their perception already depends on the personal preferences of the listener. In general, a typical situation “either you will hate, or you will love”, the other is not actually given.

Compatibility

Headphones, of course, are optimized for simple sources, because they also play well with inexpensive players and smartphones. I tested them with iPad Air, iPod Video 5.5G, Sandisk Sansa Clip, Rio Karma - all the headphones play well with them, no sound degradation is observed.

8 Other tips

Headphones are also very uncritical to the quality of recording and forgive many flaws.

conclusions

I can not say that these are headphones that will suit everyone, they are not universal. If you take "at random" - I would rather recommend Gryphon, they are more neutral in their submission. Can you say that the Bullets 6mm headphones are bad? In no case! They clearly have strengths that make them a worthy option for acquaintance, because, quite possibly, they will appeal to you.
