I have always considered ceramics one of the most interesting materials for the manufacture of in-ear headphones. Headphones, made of it, always have an interesting appearance, a good margin of safety and a good sound. Fischer Audio experimented with watch ceramics long ago, but their first model “Ceramique” didn’t suit everyone because of the fit. Taking into account these problems, the company released two new models, one of which we will consider. The subject of our review today will be Fischer Audio Gryphon headphones.
The world's first watch in a ceramic case, which is not afraid of scratches, released the famous company Rado. In fact, watch ceramics has nothing to do with clay pots, it is a complex composite material reinforced with tungsten, titanium or tantalum carbide, cobalt is usually used as a binder. The hardness of this material is 1400–1900 units on the Vickers scale (HV), for comparison: the hardness of steel is 200–260 HV, and titanium is 210 HV. Thus, headphones made of ceramics are, firstly, almost impossible to scratch, and secondly, they have excellent acoustic characteristics.
If we talk about the details, in the "Griffins" are used are gaining popularity miniature emitters of a new generation with a diameter of 6 mm. Also worth noting is the presence of a headset and a democratic price of 1,300 rubles.

Package and Delivery
Packaging is quite simple, in direct accordance with the price segment of the headphones. A flat box of white cardboard with the image of the "Griffins" themselves. Inside was a plastic clip holding the headphones and accessories.
Unexpectedly, there are a lot of accessories for this price category: three pairs of nozzles of different sizes, a carrying case, an unusual-shaped clothespin and an adapter from a 4-pin to a 3-pin plug. The latter can be very useful in some Chinese players with a crooked nest, they often do not work well with 4-pin jacks.
At this point, the headphones leave a pleasant impression.
Design and wearing comfort
Gryphon immediately bribe unusual shape and a pleasant weight in his hand. Most of all they resemble a miniature hair dryer. The ceramic body with a sloping back side turns into very thick metal sound guides, which are fitted with nozzles. The sound systems are marked with colored rings: blue on the left and red on the right. The wire goes down, so the headphones can be worn in the usual way and behind the ear. By the way, I do not recommend losing the “Griffin” attachments, it will be very difficult to find a replacement, because, firstly, they are wide, and secondly, they have an unusual shape with slightly elongated nozzles. The latter, by the way, contributes to the sound. From the "decorations" on the body of the headphones there is a pattern in the form of a tongue of flame.
The cable is made of high-purity copper, in a silicone sheath, reinforced with Kevlar. It is not prone to hardening in the cold, it does not get very confused, the microphone effect (rustling from rubbing against clothes) is average. A complete clothespin or Gryphon BTE is recommended. Headphones are equipped with a one-button headset that is compatible with most modern phones.
The nozzles are soft, so with their proper selection, long wearing does not cause discomfort, sound insulation is good.
Sound
The following equipment was used for listening:
- Yulong DA8 as a DAC
- Yulong A28 as an amplifier
- Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2013 as a source
- Fidelia as a player
- HiFiMan 901 and Fiio X5 as portable players
- VSonic Gr01 and HiFiMan Re600 as headphones for comparison
- High-resolution recordings in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)
Before listening, the headphones warmed up for 48 hours, no changes in sound were noticed.
The sound of "Griffins" was very close to the monitor-even. Such a sound is a very rare phenomenon in plug-in headphones, especially in models of the budget price category. Most often, manufacturers for low-cost models are trying to make a V-obscure frequency response, which is perceived most favorably by the majority of listeners, but not every listener can estimate the neutral sound in headphones. Fortunately, Fischer Audio still decided to go for this experiment. Of course, there is no absolute neutrality of expensive reinforcement headphones, and you should take into account the budget model, but, as often happens, in terms of price / quality ratio - Gryphon is very good.
Low frequencies are very pleased, first of all in detail and depth. Quantitatively, they may not be enough for amateurs “so that they beat them,” but these headphones were not created for them. Thanks to good bass detail, the headphones are well suited for many technical genres in which it is not the “sound wave” that is important, but the resolution of this range.
The mids may seem cloudy if you are accustomed to the “taste” feed, but this is nothing more than a deception of hearing, and after 15 minutes of listening, the brain is rebuilt and begins to perceive the detailing and neutrality of the feed as it should be. Gryphon well build a virtual scene, the tools are perfectly separated and have character.
The high-frequency range is also pleased with the absence of distortion and various unpleasant surprises such as sibilants and sharpness. In the music there is a sufficient amount of air, attenuation and small nuances are transmitted well.
Compatibility
In general, headphones, of course, do not require a steep source. They will play well with smartphones and simple players. I like to watch films with high-quality special effects, because Gryphon is very good at transmitting them. But here it is worth considering that the potential of these headphones lies “above” the mediocre sound quality of modern phones / tablets, and even if you decide to buy a player more quality, you can keep the headphones.
Headset quality is normal. When talking, it is better to bring the microphone closer to the mouth, then the other person will hear you clearly.
findings
Very unusual headphones in many ways. The design, the materials used, the smooth, close to the monitor, the sound - all this is difficult to meet in the budget price segment, especially in the version with a headset. If you miss the "honest", without decorations, sound, then on your street - a holiday, Gryphon - headphones for you. The low price even allows you to buy them in a pair to some other model and use them alternately, depending on the genre.
