I recently reviewed the wonderful Philips BTS5000 wireless speakers (also known in some countries as S5X). BTS5000 is a good solution for those who listen to music at home, in stationary conditions. If you prefer music on the street, on a camping trip or on a picnic, or alternate listening to home and outdoor listening, the company also has an excellent solution in the face of the portable speaker SB5200 (BR1X).
Of course, testing the SB5200, I couldn't help but recall another good column from this company that I had on the review, ShoqBox (SB7220), both solutions are quite shockproof, compact and have a built-in battery, but there are also differences. ShoqBox uses a lot of interesting moves (for example, control without touch), so the price of this column on Yandex.Market at the time of this writing is about 7,000 rubles. The BR1X is a bit simpler, and at the expense of it cheaper (about 4,500 rubles), but at the same time it will find something to surprise the buyer.

Appearance and control
Packaging is fairly simple. Eco-friendly, recycled cardboard, color print on the front side, on top - a plastic tongue for hanging on the shop window. It all looks simple and neat.
Included, in addition to the speaker itself, you will receive a power supply for fast charging, instructions and a twisted cable for connecting several SB5200 speakers together. If you have more than one BR1X, you can combine them to get a louder sound. The number of columns that can be so connected together - unlimited.
The column itself looks very brutal: a slightly rounded parallelepiped covered with rubber to protect the outside world from adversity. A wide canvas loop is attached to the side for easy carrying, it is removable, and can be detached if desired. On the front panel there are two stereo speakers picked up by grilles, two volume buttons, a power button with an indicator, as well as input and output jacks. On the back of the speaker is a hole for the woofer wOOx emitter, a button for resetting Bluetooth settings, a mode switching button, and two charging sockets. One is for fast charging from a complete power supply, the second is for charging from mobile batteries, laptops, etc. with a micro USB connector.
On the underside of the column there is a threaded hole that allows you to use the SB5200 with any photo pole.
The column exists in many colors. I had a SB5200 khaki, but there are also a choice of colors to choose from.
Bluetooth allows you to easily connect almost any modern device, and for gadgets lagging behind life there is a standard 3.5 mm input. Thus, almost anything can be connected to the BR1X.
If you use the SB5200 with a smartphone, you can even answer calls in conference mode using the built-in microphone.
Sound
Very good idea with the sound mode switch. Usually portable speakers are designed either for home use or for listening outside. In the first case, it is necessary to ensure high-quality, if not very loud, sound, in the second case, it is loudness that gives priority, albeit at the cost of some compromise in quality. The BR1X has a switch that allows you to switch between these two modes, if you wish, so the column is universal.
Of course, I wrote a review on sound quality specifically for the “Indoors” mode. In the "Outdoors" mode, the volume margin is very good, but the detail work suffers. In the home mode, the sound pleasantly surprised me at once with several factors.
Branded wOOx technology provides enhanced bass response, the SB5200 manage to produce a deep and powerful, but not a hollow bass. Due to the competent implementation of pairing emitters, there is no sense of fragmentation of the woofer sound and wideband speakers, the sound image is quite solid.
The rest of the frequency range is also quite good, especially considering the price and size of the BR1X. There is a detail, and even the resolution is quite at the level of many models more, both in size and price. Of course, this decision is not for sophisticated audiophiles, it is unreasonable to listen to complex musical genres on this column, but, you see, it is not necessary to demand the impossible. Most genres, from pop to rock, the SB5200 work out great.
