It's difficult to start a review of something that HiFiMan did: writing banalities about how the company is known - do not want it, its products speak for themselves. Most of their products belong to the middle and upper price segments, but what about music lovers who do not have a deep purse? It is for them and presented a novelty - headphones Re300.
The name HiFiMan was made on isodynamic headphones and iPods (for example, I wrote about their HE-560 and HM-901 models), then the company's lineup was expanded with amplifiers and in-channel headphones. Their Re-series models, such as Re0, ReZero, Re-400 and Re-600, quickly became the benchmark for dynamic headphones. The main disadvantage was the high price, the Re-400 cost about $ 100, the Re-600 - 400. Not so long ago HiFiMan decided to conquer more affordable segments and lowered prices, the Re-600 in unbalanced version can now be purchased for $ 200 (and this is excellent the price for headphones of this level), and Re-400 now cost only 80.
Novelty, Re300, is designed to take an even more affordable segment, its price tag at the start is $ 50, in addition, there are headphone versions with a headset for iOS and Android-devices. My
To all three new models in HiFiMan came seriously. The headset for iOS is made of three-button, so owners will be able to control not only playback, but also loudness, the Android option is one-buttoned, because there is no single standard for headsets with volume control for these phones. Impedance models with headsets is 32Ω, which is perhaps the best option for headphones used with a smartphone. On the one hand, they are not too tight for a weak amplifier, on the other - the battery charge is consumed more economically.
The version without the headset (with index h) flaunts an advanced cable from the OCC of copper, doubled impedance and a wider frequency range, which was beneficial to the sound of the Re300h on a good source.

Packing and delivery kit
HiFiMan are true to their traditions and packaging. The outer box is made of plain brown cardboard, it contains a usual plastic box-display with headphones. Also in HiFiMan the habit of saving in budget models on accessories is also observed. With these headphones you only get two pairs of nozzles - one pair of small two-flange ones and one pair of large white transparent silicone. To slightly sweeten the pill, 5 pairs of replaceable filters were put in the set, to replace those that are installed on the sound ducts.
In general, not enough everything, even for budget headphones. I think, as usual, later in HiFiMan realize this fact and add to the package of supplies and attachments, and a cover (at least with the Re-400 it did).
Design and comfortable wearing
The headphones are completely plastic, the metal remained for more expensive models. The case is of unusual shape, very compact. The small size and placement of the wire allows you to carry the Re300 and cable down, and with a breech landing.
Due to the small size of the headset fit - very comfortable, even for owners of small ears. Sound insulation completely depends on the nozzles, most often it is medium. There are only two pairs of complete baits, therefore, when buying Re300, you must be prepared for the fact that you will have to look for additional nozzles to optimally plant the nozzle, but now this is not a problem.
The cable is also common, in silicone insulation, it hardens slightly in the frost, has a small microphone effect, it is better to use a bovine wearing to combat it.
Sound
The following equipment was used for listening:
- Yulong DA8 as a DAC and amplifier
- Resonessence Labs Concero HP as a DAC and Amplifier
- Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2013 as a source
- Fidelia as a player
- Fiio X5 and QLS QA360 as portable players
- VSonic Gr01 and HiFiMan Re600 as headphones for comparison
- High Definition Records in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)
Before listening to the headphones were warmed for 48 hours.
In general, there is a feeling that HiFiMan decided in this model to compensate for all the shortage of low frequencies that existed in the model Re400. I mean, of course, the subjective shortage, since the Re400 headphones are flat and close to neutral. Most of the feedback below applies to both headphones (both H-version and headset), I will describe the difference between them separately.
Re300 very bass, and the number of bass they have depends on the nozzles, or rather - on the density of landing in the ears. For the sake of interest, I have attached large two-flange attachments from the Re600 kit and was literally stunned by the amount of low frequencies that the Re300 babies drive into their ears. The small black nozzles in the package are the worst thing that isolate the headphones in my ears, so the sound is slightly squeaky, so I ended up with the large white nozzles from the kit, with which the sound turned out to be more or less balanced.
The overall sound of the headphones can be described as dark, softened and sometimes slightly slow. If you like the speed and detail - it is better to look immediately to the side of older models, especially given their current price.
Bass - the main dominant of the sound, it is a lot, although not superfluous, it pleasantly "booms", adding lively to the compositions, but sometimes it unconscionably climbs to the middle frequencies. Headphones are well suited for electronic music, acoustic instruments, small jazz bands.
The middle frequencies are quite detailed, although they are not comparable with those in Re400. For the undemanding listener - they are more than good and cope with the transfer of musical material at a decent level.
HF - also good for this price range, and in the H version they are better worked and felt "more even" than the headsets. Excess HF, causing fatigue by sound - completely absent.
On hearing, H version is perceived as more detailed, they are louder (which is natural with impedance taken into account) and have better developed HF.
Compatibility
Of course, headphones are not critical to the source. They are flavoring and their feeding ways to smooth out the roughness of not very high-quality players and smartphones. They also allow you to "correct" and the shortcomings of the records. Re300 - one of the few headphones, in which even records in MP3 with low bitrates do not irritate the total synth.
The microphone of the complete headset is quite good, better than most other models.
conclusions
In general, HiFiMan made good headphones for the mass market. Of course, the Re400 sounds more detailed and purer, and the difference in price is only $ 30, but their neutral and slightly boring presentation does not always find a response among ordinary listeners who prefer a more bodily sound. Re300, acting in some way antipodes of older models, is precisely aimed at this wide audience.
