Companies that have long won a name in the audio equipment market are always trying to promote their own approach to sound throughout the model line. Denon is no exception. Some time ago, they turned off their highly successful line of headphones AH D-2000, AH D-5000 and AH D-7000, releasing several models in the new case, some of them are of interest and claim to "top" AH D-7100 and more budgetary (though not much) AH D-600. It is about the latter that I will tell.
Closed high-level headphones are less common open, as open acoustic design makes it easier to achieve even sound and good detail. But what if you can not use open headphones? To help come a few top-end closed models, among which deservedly enjoyed the Denon AH D-x000. The reasons for which the production and sale of the models of the past were curtailed are quite incomprehensible, because they were in demand, they looked stylish and around them there was a community of admirers and modification masters who offered replacement cups, wires, ear cups and other tuning for them. The new Denon models also look rather interesting, but the charm that was inherent in the old models is lost, and modifications to their cups are virtually impossible due to the design.
Price lists for novelties were exhibited very cruel, the hero of today's review of the D-600 , which takes these models into that niche where they have a lot of very evil competitors. What does the buyer get for this money?

Packing and delivery kit
To create a box in Denon came up on a grand scale. Not many flagships of other companies can boast of such packaging. The box is traditional for full-size headphones volume, it is large enough, but noticeably less than the comfort of the Sennheiser HD 800, the outer cover pleases with beautiful printing in stylish burgundy-black tones. The inner box is made of solid cardboard, with a flip top cover. In her, on the bed of a beautiful wavy fabric headphones themselves rest. The pallet with them can be removed by pulling the specially designed "ears" along the edges, under it are two boxes, in which the accessories are neatly packed. In general, the delivery kit is excellent, together with the packaging they produce a very pleasant impression of an expensive and premium product.
Design and Convenience
Above the appearance of the headphones in Denon worked very well. Of course, the old models of wood and metal looked better, but despite the prevalence of plastic in the new models, they still look good, primarily due to the very unusual shape of the headband and fastening the cups. D-600 have a stylish enough and futuristic look, while not passing that side beyond which begins kitsch. The color scheme of the headphones is predominantly black, with small silver accents. The build quality is excellent, everything is adjusted well. In the headband there is a metal plate, which provides the necessary clamping and strength. The size of the headband is regulated in fairly large ranges, which makes it possible to use headphones with almost any form of head, although I met on the Internet that it would be too big for the owners of a small head. The clamping force is a bit more comfortable, so in some cases headphones can significantly press on the head.
Headband and ear cushions are made of high-quality artificial leather. The latter have a special shape and are filled inside with a foam material that remembers the shape. Thanks to this, the headphones fit well to the head. Because of the tight fit, the headphones have a problem with overheating of the ears, so periodically it is worth taking a short break, letting the auricles cool down. Except for this and strong pressure, there are no other problems with ergonomics.
Sound insulation is above average, the D-600 is suitable for almost any environment, except perhaps the noisiest situations such as subways.

Before listening to the headphones were warmed for 48 hours.
In Denon we decided to make the D-600 headphones with a "taste" feed and a typical V-shape response. Of course, with the company's experience in personal audio, they could not have done such a vulgarity as the same Beats, but to a typical neutral sound they are certainly far away. Also, the victim of the taste feed was the speed, due to this, headphones sometimes just do not have enough microdetails and nuances to work out, which they compensate with the feed energy.
The bass in the headphones is emphasized, there are many, it is dense and in most cases it is controlled well. Of course, there are rare cases when control is lost, but it happens infrequently. The D-600, of course, does not have a crazy solution to isodynamic models or open dynamic tops, but their developers did not set such a goal. The D-600's bass is needed to create a "skeleton" of the melody, to which the remaining instruments are already "hung" from above. This is also facilitated by the excellent depth of low frequencies, which is so necessary for some genres.
The mid-range frequencies are taken to the background, and this is perhaps the strongest claim to these headphones. I can not say that they have bad MFs or they lack the resolution critically, no, just "in general" the MF does not reach the level that the headphones should have for $ 500. Because of this, instead of a natural volume and an imaginary scene, the D-600 draw a very decorated picture with a claim to three-dimensionality. To many, in principle, such a presentation will be pleasant, simple genres with these headphones sound fascinating.
The high frequencies are also lowered, the developers struggled to prevent the brightness and fatigue of the sound, but at the same time made the necessary peak on the HF, so that they did not seem completely cloudy and flat-sounding. This led to the necessary result: HF in the D-600 is perceived well, despite the plaque of synthetics. The volume, even if not entirely natural, is also being constructed interestingly.
Compatibility
Headphones differ very high sensitivity, which, combined with taste and low impedance makes them an excellent companion for different smartphones, tablets and simple players. With the D-600 you do not have to bother with a high-end DAC and amplifier, with them, of course, it will be better, but without them - the headphones play very well.
To emphasize the mobile purpose of headphones, Denon released its own player application for iOS. I do not quite understand the meaning of it, because the only useful thing that it has is an equalizer, you need to buy it for $ 2 with the help of IAP, but the step, nevertheless, is interesting, and other manufacturers will obviously catch up with it.
Genrefully this model is best suited for simple music - simple kinds of jazz, pop music, electronics, not very heavy rock and so on. To the quality of recording, the headphones are quite tolerant, the main thing is that the bass is well prescribed and does not hum.
conclusions
In general, the headphones are interesting. Closed full-sized headphones, capable of working well with simple sources and at the same time giving out a decent sound, there are not many on the market, and despite some peculiarities of sound, the Denon AH D-600 is an interesting model. Of course, Denon overestimated them, but now they can be purchased with a good discount, which makes their purchase a very interesting option, if you need headphones that you want to listen to not only sitting in your favorite armchair at home.
