Overview of Atlas headphones from Trinity Audio - hybrids with tuning sound

1 Main Pic

I think it's safe to say that Trinity Audio Engineering has managed to win its place in the portable audio market. I have already described two of their excellent models Hyperion and Techne, and on the way are already new solutions in the face of Vyrus and Delta-II. In the meantime, it will be about their youngest at the moment model available for sale - "sports" hybrids Atlas.

Perhaps, Trinity - the fastest company in the market of headphones. I have a feeling that the guys got to their favorite thing, and they "pryot" from it. They try unusual schemes, custom design, bold decisions. Fortunately, they get not only the appearance, but also the sound, which really improves "before our eyes." Their first hybrid model Delta was good, but could hardly claim a sharp breakthrough in the quality of music playback. Considering this, Trinity released Atlas, which they decided to consider as "sporty" headphones, but at the same time the sound was significantly upgraded in them, getting a good result. In turn, Delta withdrew from the sale, one of these days there is their new revision with improved sound and interchangeable wires, but this is a subject of another story.

2 Box

Atlas are made in an ergonomic all-metal casing, the manufacturer promises for them protection against splashes, inevitable during active operation. Inside is a traditional hybrid circuit: a speaker for bass and an "armature" for MF / HF. In addition, the headphones use a proprietary system of replaceable filters (in this model there are already as many as 5, and Trinity does not stop there). At the same time, the price for them is very democratic for their level. On the official site they are sold for $ 215 , but without difficulty you can find coupons for discounts that reach 30%. In addition, the company offers free shipping almost all over the world.

Packing and delivery kit

The Atlas box is standard for the company - a dark gray cardboard with a magnetic valve. But in this model they worked a little on printing, it began to look slightly better. Although who cares about boxes? The main thing - the content, but it is very much there. In the box neatly placed:

  • headphones themselves (surprisingly);
  • different pieces of paper (where without them);
  • a triangular cover on the snake (same as other Trinity models);
  • nozzles (2 pairs of foam, a pair of two-flange, 3 pairs of single-flange);
  • twisted cable for use with players;
  • two cables with a headset for mobile phones (1.2 m and 0.6 m);
  • two screw-in containers, each of which contains 2 pairs of replaceable filters for tuning the sound;
  • clothespin for fixing the cable to the clothes;
  • adapter for turning the jack into a 90 ° angle.

3 Accessories

In general, the delivery set is the most extensive and really thought out.

Design and comfortable wearing

Appearance Atlas bribes at a glance. The headphones are designed for BTE wearing and have a characteristic oval shape with an angular sound and a cable that goes up. Above the form worked, it is very ergonomic, and in combination with a small size, the headphones fit well into almost any ears. The body is made entirely of metal, the headphones are offered in different bright colors, so any esthete will find a suitable option. The build quality is very good, there are not the slightest flaws or attempts to save.

4 Overview

The manufacturer says that the headphones are protected from splashes, in combination with a metal case and interchangeable wires, this allows you not to worry about their reliability. Thanks to a good fit, the headphones also have quite decent passive soundproofing. Worn Atlas very comfortable and even with prolonged listening to negative emotions do not cause.

The cables are replaceable, an MMCX connector is used, two wires with a headset are average in quality, they are thick enough and have a small microphone effect. The wire without the headset is quite good, it is light and soft, and the twisted construction protects it from tangling and noise. The plugs and splitter blocks are also made well, so the reliability of the wires is unlikely to cause questions (although MMCX connectors may be a weak link here).

Sound

The following equipment was used for listening.

  • NuPrime DAC-10H and Resonessence Labs Concero HP as DAC and Amplifier
  • Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2013 as a source
  • Fidelia as a player
  • Fiio X7 and Luxury & Precission L5Pro as portable players
  • VSonic Gr01, Dunu Titan 1 and Dunu DN-2000J as headphones for comparison
  • High Definition Records in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)

Before listening to the headphones were warmed for 48 hours.

5 Close View

In their headphones Trinity develop the topic of replaceable filters. In Techne there were 3 of them, in Delta - 4, in this model there are already 5, in the future Delta-II there will be as many as 7. Some do not agree, but I believe that the future still has such solutions. Make a model that will suit everyone at once - it is unrealistic, and often the user has to put up with certain aspects of the headphones sound in the style of "excellent midrange and high frequency, but the bass is too much." It is here that light tuning comes to the rescue. Of course, adjusting the headphones constantly - not an option, the task of the filters is to find the one option that suits you most, and stopped on it. Filters are attached to the thread, so replacing them does not present the slightest problem.

6 Side by Side

The main difference between the filters included in the Atlas kit is the amount of bass, you can vary them quite flexibly from the bass deck to the dried sound of almost pure "fittings". For myself, I settled on a purple filter, called "neutral" in the manual, it costs the second by the amount of bass from the end, if you arrange the filters in descending order of low frequencies. So further impressions about the sound are based on this version of the sound.

With a purple filter the sound of the headphones has accented low frequencies, in general the AFC has a light V-shape. Headphones do not really have a bias in the dark pitch, bass here takes the shock, not the amount.

7 Without Tips

Low frequencies, even with a neutral filter - are deep enough and have a slight underscore. This is a bit like the manner of filing Sony Z5 (of course, I mean exactly the manner of transferring LF). The control of the bass is not bad, but because of the accent it depends very much on the source, if the player emphasizes the low-frequency range, then it may turn out to be a "bust". Fortunately, with most modern players this problem is not present, and the bass has a good, albeit not prohibitive speed, sometimes, very rarely, there are slight hints of hum.

The midrange range is a little reserved for creating a "pleasant" frequency response, but here it is done very moderately, so there is no problem. The resolution of the "middle" is good, emotions are transmitted, the tools are normally separated, their character is transmitted reliably. The imaginary scene is slightly more than the average in width and the average in depth.

8 Angled View

The HF is slightly emphasized, this gives the compositions a pleasant lightness and airiness, but the reverse side here is the sensitivity to the source and the quality of the recording. Given the emphasis on the upper frequencies, low-quality tracks can cut a rumor.

Compatibility

In general, headphones can be listened to with phones and tablets, headset cables have been put in the kit for good reason, but from the use of a good player, Atlas greatly benefit. It is very desirable for them to have a smooth source without distortions in the tonality and accentuation of any parts of the range.

9 On M2

Stylistically, this model is very universal, it is more important not for the style, but for the quality of the recording of a particular track. Particularly winning in these headphones are genres with an emphasis on bass. To the quality of recording headphones are very sensitive, on a 10-point scale, I would rate them by 9 points.

By tradition there are few examples.

Queen - Another One Bites The Dust. What if a talented group starts playing disco? The answer is before us. Actually, the ideal option for these headphones: a clear bass line, winding drums, what these hybrids especially succeed.

King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man. The classic of prog-rock sounds quite advantageous with the emphasis on percussion and percussion provided by Atlas.

Hans Zimmer - Mountains (Interstellar OST). And one more track, ideally suited to these headphones. An unusual mixture of ambient and classics, immersing in its unique atmosphere is played out powerfully and with the proper pressure.

conclusions

A very interesting model, combining a good, typically "hybrid" sound, a stylish appearance, the possibility of tuning sound and replaceable cables. Such a "gentleman's set" of new generation headphones. All this is complemented by moisture resistance and quite a pleasant price. It remains only to add that I will look forward to future Trinity innovations, which promise to be even more interesting.
