It's nice when people keep promises. Here Fiio promised to release interchangeable amplifiers for the X7, and the first amplification module is already being sent to distributors around the world. This module was called medium power (average power) and the index AM2.
Despite the slightly argued objections on the Internet, I like the idea of interchangeable amplifiers. In fact, why waste unnecessary battery power if you only listen to low impedance gags? Or why unnecessary power and noise in low-resistance sensitive kastomah? In general, I am for flexible tuning and capacity expansion. Fiio from the start equipped its flagship X7 with the weakest amplifier, it copes well with IEM, but for full-size models it is not enough. And then AM2 arrived. The price, by the way, is $ 100 for it, it should go on sale in the near future, since the shipment to distributors has already begun.

For AM2 Fiio used two layers, the outer - a black box of medium-density cardboard, inside there is a tin box with a lid. Most of this box is a rubber insert, protecting the amplifier from possible adversities. In addition to the plug-in module itself, you will get a set of cogs, warranty papers and a set of stickers in case you suddenly pasted the X7 with AM1 and now AM2 loses for lack of such beauty.
The new module is slightly different in color, it is darker, and it does not have a longitudinal metal texture, like AM1. This is done specifically to make all the amplifiers different in color. Especially the difference is noticeable from the butt, but I think that the problem of the difference in shades can be only for those suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder in neglected form. I generally use the player in the case and do not see the amplifier.
The change of the amplifier is so simple that there is nothing to describe: we unscrew the two cogs, try not to lose them, remove the current module, put a new one, screw the cogs into place. If you still lost them, then there are spare ones with both the amplifier and the X7 package. Yes, do not forget to remove the rubber plug from the module's pins, the module will only be installed with the strongest audiophiles.
Yes, I will say more about the time of work on one battery charge: with the installation of a new module, it is reduced by about an hour, I played 7 hours and 35 minutes from one charge. In general, the result is very good, given that the power of the "two" is about three times higher than the base amplifier.
Sound
To listen to the device used the following headphones: ZMF Omni, Oppo PM-3, Titan 3 and Titan 5, Lear LHF-AE1d, Ambient Acoustics AM10, VE Monk and Asura v2, HiFiMan HE-400S.
This module uses a bundle of good buffer BUF634 and no less than good operating system MUSES02, which proved to be very useful in Fiio E12A. Actually, just on the last and the new module is similar.
First, it is worth noting, there are no cardinal changes in the sound of AM2, the common features of the X7 serve are the same: detailed MF, volume, fast and energetic bass. The changes in sound are exactly one and a half. First, the increased power, which is in favor of full-size models of headphones and difficult in the swing of the IEM. Secondly, the tonal balance is slightly changed in the direction of LF, and the VCh is slightly relaxed, but these changes are really very, very small.
The reserve capacity of the new module is enough for almost any headphones, except for the most tight. Where AM1 did not have enough exhaust for swinging, AM2 does not fold, so those who upgrade the amplifier will note the growth of dynamics, improvements in the imaginary scene and the elaboration of small nuances.
In general, the supply of X7 adds to what is often called "musicality", that is, the sound becomes more monolithic, and the musical canvas - more holistic.

Well, I liked the X7 right out of the box, with AM2 I like it even more. The converse is also true: those who did not like X7 immediately - AM2 will not help. The amplifier offers more power, plus a slightly warmer and fused sound. If you listen to full-size headphones, AM2 will definitely become a successful purchase, which will help the player to better reveal their positive aspects.
