The task of any company striving for success in the market is to cover with its products as many segments as possible. No exception is the manufacturers of headphones, such as the German Maestro. I have already considered their average model GMP-250, it's time to discuss the budget segment in the face of 3CAN 116H.
Actually, with the development of the younger model in GM did not really think much and made everything utilitarianly simple. First, this model was made a waybill for ease of use "on the go", secondly, the design was decorated with red patterns, and thirdly, the sound was revised towards the dominance of LF, which is usually not enough on the street.
Thus, these headphones are a typical "youth" version, offering roughly the same as that of other manufacturers, only cheaper and better by sound.
Price list, fortunately, the company made available, at the time of the publication of the article

Packing and delivery kit
In the design of the box, the developers moved a little from the strict cardboard of older versions and made a more flashy package with a plastic window that allows you to evaluate the appearance of the headphones before purchasing. Inside, the 3CAN 116 is secured in a T-shaped cardboard lock, also concealing a simple set of accessories, consisting of an instruction and a cloth bag with puffs for storing headphones.
The equipment, of course, is not rich, but the headphones are budgetary, so there is no need to expect any "luxuries".
Design and comfort
In appearance, the headphones are also quite simple. Of all the materials of the German Maestro, ABS plastic is preferred, and this budget modification is no exception. A restrained combination of conventional plastic and soft touch, discreet elements of red color - all this creates the effect of a very restrained design. To dilute it a little, the patterns and model name were applied to the cups. The whole design obeys one goal - practicality and durability, the headphones are designed for active everyday use, and the developers have done everything to this model served as long as possible. The build quality is quite good, there are no noticeable problems and flaws.
The functional design of the headphones is also made as simple as possible - the usual symmetrical plugs, the adjustment of the size of the headband with the help of a ratchet, no surprises. The cups rotate around two axes, if necessary they can be rotated by 90 ° for comfortable wearing headphones around the neck.
Earpieces and headband are made from the most common imitation leather, they are soft enough. The size of the 3CAN is good, so the headphones will fit almost without any problems. The pressure is small, so the soundproofing is at an average level. On the other hand, they are comfortable enough to wear.
The cable is non-removable, red, suitable for one cup. He is in a cloth braid, which provides him with protection against rubbing and cold. There is a model of headphones with a headset.
Sound
The following equipment was used for listening:
- NuPrime DAC-10H and Resonessence Labs Concero HP as DAC and Amplifier
- Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2013 as a source
- Fidelia as a player
- Fiio X5-2 and Cayin N6 as portable players
- GMP-250 and Philips Fidelio X1 as headphones for comparison
- High Definition Records in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)
Before listening, each headset was warmed for 72 hours.
In the sound, the developers decided to make a practically win-win bet for bass, because few people buy portable overhead headphones to listen to the house in a quiet environment, and listen to the nuances of neutral and detailed sound amidst ambient noise on the street - hardly anyone will. In addition, it is the low-frequency noise that best penetrates through the isolation of the headphones and jams the bass in the music. Thus, 3CAN was clearly not an audiophile model, although this did not have to be expected in view of their price.
There is a lot of bass in these headphones. Of course, not so much as in models for bassheads, and it is controlled better, but the LF is noticeably larger than in typical balanced headphones. LF resolution is average, which is not bad for the budget model, the depth is slightly higher than average, although the main emphasis is traditionally placed on midbass. In genres such as pop music, electronics and simple rock, the speed of the bass is quite enough, for high-speed and brutal styles these headphones will do less, because of stalling low frequencies in a heap.
The midrange range in the headphones is generally quite good, but, like most LF-oriented models, it suffers from a bass creeping on it. In compositions with a restrained bass, the headphones show a quite good resolution for their price, which transmits both emotions and the nature of the instruments. There is a small amount of artificiality on the top of the mid-range, but, again, for this category, this is actually the norm. Because of the dominance of the bass, the scene is not large either in width or in depth.
The upper frequency range is slightly underlined to compensate for bass, but without special bends. HF audible, but do not draw attention to themselves against the background of LF, their resolution is not high, but for day-to-day wearing of headphones this is not required. The sharpness of the HF in this model is moderate, although on very very unsuccessful sources with the accentuation of sibilants may have to be encountered, although this will have to be tried.
Compatibility
Headphones are quite good at showing themselves to simple sources such as smartphones and tablets, they do not need a top-end player by and large. Genre headphones gravitate towards simple styles that do not involve high-speed low-frequency output: dance electronic music, pop, light rock, etc. Something more complex in them, of course, can be listened to, but there is no special quality to expect. The quality of the 3CAN 116 recording is completely uncritical, like any headphones that have a noticeable color in the sound.
The quality of the microphone is normal, the interlocutor hears you well.
Traditionally a few example tracks
Juno Reactor - Navras. Of course, JR write is not the most simple music, and Navras, which became the soundtrack to the final part of the "Matrix" - and in general can be considered one of the tops of their work. Nevertheless, 3CAN 116 cope with this track quite nicely, primarily due to the underlining of the low-frequency range.
Sting - Fields of Gold. Is it necessary to especially represent Sting? His music is simple enough to play well even with such bass headphones as these, but at the same time difficult enough to get aesthetic pleasure from her.
Billy Idol - Mony Mony. Fervent and driving song, which many heard, but not everyone knows its author. Such simple tracks - also very well show the capabilities of this model, without exaggerating its shortcomings.
conclusions
In general, German Maestro wanted to create "youth" headphones, they did it. The overhead form factor, low price, practicality and bass sound are what are valued in such models. For connoisseurs of serious music, these headphones will not work, but they clearly were not the target audience of this model.
