Brainwavz, like many other manufacturers, are constantly looking for their niche, releasing models with different interesting positioning. Recently, their lineup was replenished with a novelty focused on sports, which received the index XF-200.
The model belongs to the budget segment, where Brainwavz traditionally show itself with the best possible side, it is enough to recall their models Delta and Omega. Based on this, no overdisks from the XF-200 should be expected. This is an ergonomic model with a cable designed for bush landing, which ensures reliable fixation of headphones during various activities. In the rest it's simple dynamic headphones with a headset and a nice price tag of $ 25.

Packing and delivery kit
This time, the headphone box was made of plastic. It turned out to be strong, and it looks very good. Inside there is a standard cover from Brainwavz with headphones, in it you will find a clothespin and velcro for reeling, in a separate compartment there are nozzles. With the last not stingy, to the headphones you get 6 pairs of single nozzles (2 pairs of three sizes), a pair of double and a pair of foams T-400 from Comply. For such a budget model - very good.
Design and comfortable wearing
By type XF-200 - typical headphones with a breech landing, they have a characteristic shape with an upwardly directed cable. The sound duct comes out of the case at an angle, it is very long, which allows a reliable fit (of course, with the correct selection of attachments). The headphones are compact enough and do not have sharp edges, so they sat in my ears without problems, although on the Internet I saw complaints about the landing. There are several color options, I had a transparent, I have a weakness for headphones, the filling of which can be seen.
The wire is typical for Brainwavz, then their standard molds are used, this is noticeable both by the plug and by the splitter. The cable itself is of medium thickness, in rubberized insulation. Because of the radically white color, it is likely to get dirty, but the headphones for $ 25 this is clearly not a "purchase for ages", in a year they can be replaced. The cable hardens in the cold, but moderately. Wires placed directly in front of the headphones are made with a memory effect, so they can be bent to form the earhooks. This improves the landing and removes the microphone effect, which is very important for active pastime. Wherever necessary, the wire is strengthened, although headphones can not stand the very rough handling.
On the wire there is a three-button headset, it is especially convenient that two convex points are marked on the central button, it allows to grope it without looking. Brainwavz managed to ensure that all three buttons work with both the iPhone and Android (I tested it on the iPhone 6 Plus and Highscreen Boost).
Sound insulation is slightly better than average, especially if you use two-flange or foam nozzles, although for a very noisy environment it still will not be enough. In general, when moving quickly along the street, it is better to hear at least some of what is happening around.
The headphones are collected quite qualitatively, and they look good, especially with the correction for the price.
Sound
The following equipment was used for listening.
- NuPrime DAC-10H and Resonessence Labs Concero HP as DAC and Amplifier
- Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2013 as a source
- Fidelia as a player
- Fiio X7 and Luxury & Precission L5Pro as portable players
- VSonic Gr01, Dunu Titan 1 and Dunu DN-2000J as headphones for comparison
- High Definition Records in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)
Before listening to the headphones were warmed for 48 hours.
Naturally, on the run, no one will listen to small nuances, so Brainwavz thought and decided to make a headphone for a typical AFC with a rise in the middle LF and upper midrange. In my opinion, the logical step is, firstly, it gives a "pleasant" sound, corresponding to the perception curves, and secondly, the bass first of all suffers because of street noise, so it's logical to lift it. Well, at the same time VCH, to compensate for LF and do not make the headphones very cloudy. Thus, we get a solution that is well "sharpened" for simple genres such as EDM, pop music, rap, etc. On these styles, it shows itself quite well. I'll try to evaluate X-Fit without correction for the price and in terms of universal headphones.
The bass is raised (if you picked up the correct nozzles), although, of course, not up to the basshead levels. There is no pressure on the eardrums and the infernal attempts that go into the depths to unsuccessfully depict the sub-bass, just a good bass with an emphasis on mid. Permission is at an average level, so there is no need to expect texture and high speed, although it does not merge into an indistinct rumble. Bass creates a fairly good basis for the melody and is suitable for those styles that are usually used in sports. Here the XF-200 copes with its task, their vigorous sound and pulls to run, go or at least lift the load.
The midrange is a bit secondary, albeit without frills. The bass almost does not creep on them (although sometimes it happens), but in general for $ 25 it's normal. It is not worth waiting for revelations in terms of permission and transmission of emotions, but listening to music from the XF-200 is quite possible. There is little emphasis on VHF, so the female vocals sound a little brighter than the male and sometimes this range can even cut off the ear, although not so often. The scene is just below the average and in depth and width.
HF is more or less suppressed, so there is no special airiness and lightness in the XF-200's supply, apparently, no one tried to provide them, there will not be someone in the "fitness" headphones listening to symphonic classics or progressive metal there.
Compatibility
It's very fortunate that, despite the resistance at 16Ω, Brainwavz did not make the headphones supersensitive. Therefore, they quite well show themselves with any players and "smartphone-tablets", background noise will not go into your ears and annoy. A particularly high-quality XF-200 source is not needed. I already wrote about the genre orientation of the model above. Sensitivity to the quality of the record, I would rate 4 points on a 10-point scale.
The quality of the headset microphone is average, it is better to bring it closer to your face so that you can be heard well.
conclusions
In general, a very good model for active street use. A good appearance, reasonable price, a good package and a normal sound are the components of the success of this model.
