Review of Trinity Audio Vyrus headphones - for all tastes

1-main-pic

The company Trinity continues to produce more and more new models of headphones, as a well-established conveyor. Their development always offers a good sound, a replaceable cable, the ability to be tuned with filters and quality metal enclosures. They are also pleased with the price, especially the younger models of the line, such as Vyrus.

Vyrus, like the ones I described earlier Saber, are part of the Phantom lineup. But, unlike older brothers, Vyrus uses only one radiator, although very good. This model shows quite well that the number of drivers is not an end in itself, and if desired, even with one speaker, you can achieve high-quality sound.

Vyrus is sold directly on the company's website , their price with free shipping around the world is about $ 73, which is very good for this model.

Packing and delivery kit

The box is already familiar and familiar on most models from Trinity - gray-steel color, with a magnetic valve and a small window opening a review on the headphones. Also traditionally for the company pleases the delivery kit. In addition to Vyrus, in the box you expect:

3-accessories

  • two replaceable cables, one with areas with a memory effect for the ear, the second without them
  • 4 pairs of single-flange silicone tips of different sizes
  • 1 pair of two-flange nozzles
  • 2 pairs of foam nozzles of different sizes
  • Clothes clip for clothing
  • adapter for 6.3 mm
  • angular adapter
  • triangular trunk
  • 7 pairs of replaceable filters and two tubes for their storage

As you can see, the kit includes not just a lot of things, but a lot, in addition, I met a mention that in new supplies Trinity began to add attachments from SpinFit (although I did not have them).

Design and comfort

In reality, the "Virus" is much smaller than it seems in the photo, I think that's what inspired the name. The body is made of aluminum and has the shape of a thin cylinder. Slightly closer to the outside of the case comes a smooth curl, containing a connector for the wire. The seam that connects the halves of the case looks a little rough, but with the price of headphones, this is a perfectly acceptable compromise. The chrome surface of the model collects fingerprints, but less than the Saber. In general, the headphones look good for their price.

4-side-by-side

Filters are traditionally made in the form of sound guides and fixed on the thread, their replacement takes literally a couple of seconds. With Saber filters, headphones are not compatible (on the contrary - too).

The wire of this model is interchangeable, a new connector is used, similar to Saber. As in the case of the older model, I could not "push" it to the end, there is a small gap between the body and the plug. However, neither on the sound, nor on the reliability of fixing the headphones to the wire, this did not affect. Both wires are simple enough, but they are comfortable - they do not harden in the cold, the microphone effect is very moderate and there is none at all in the breech landing. There is a certain tendency to entangle, but not critical. Thanks to the design of the case, the headphones can be worn and zaushno, and wire down. I prefer the first option.

5-without-filter

Because of their small size, Vyrus is suitable for owners of almost any ears, they sit down without problems and provide a soundproofing slightly above average. I did not find the slightest discomfort in prolonged wearing.

Sound

The following equipment was used for listening.

  • NuPrime DAC-10H and Resonessence Labs Concero HP as DAC and Amplifier
  • Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2013 as a source
  • Fidelia as a player
  • Lotoo PAW Gold, Fiio X7 and Luxury & Precission L5Pro as portable players
  • High Definition Records in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)

Before listening to the headphones were warmed for 48 hours, strong changes in the sound it did not.

6-with-cable

As usual, when it comes to models with filters, I will briefly describe the possible options. In the kit with the headphones there are three color versions of the filters: the most bass ones are silvery, purple - the most oriented on high frequency and with a minimum number of low frequencies, and also golden ones, as an intermediate variant between them. All three pairs are made in two versions, with damping and without. The option with damping offers a smaller amount of RF and a smoother feed. In general, the total is 3 variants of bass and 2 variants of HF. In addition, in the kit there are still dark gray filters that offer a "natural" sound, the most balanced, according to the engineers of the company.

Some of the filters I almost immediately removed from consideration, because they sound too colored for my taste, some will be described in more detail.

7-stylish-shot

Silver. Bass, a lot of bass, fat and powerful. Because of the quantitative dominance, it seems that it fills the whole melody, but in fact, the MF and HF are well drawn, they are simply lost on the background of the bass.

Silver with damping. Due to the smoothed HF, it seems that the bass is even greater, the sound is very dark, enveloping and with a lack of detail. In general, the option for fans of LF.

Golden. Moderate and very balanced option. Light V-shape AFC sounds very nice, giving the music liveliness and slightly emphasizing emotions. The bass is still sufficient, it is quite pronounced, but does not dominate. The speed of LF, of course, does not reach the reinforcement models, but for this price it is quite normal. SC give all the necessary nuances, but again, without the extra microdetails. Of all the filter options, this one, perhaps, has the largest imaginary scene in all dimensions, the separation of plans is average. The upper frequencies are slightly simplified, but they retain intelligibility.

Golden with a dampener. Due to the reduction in HF, the sound seems darker, the imaginary scene narrows, but on some tracks the MF gets more physicality. Plus, of course, those who do not like HF, will less "saw".

8-everything

Purple. Focus on midrange and high frequency, the sound acquires a slightly cool color and everything that is attached to such a presentation - a broad, albeit not very deep scene, sharpness and improvement of microdetails. The bass, by the way, still makes a good impression, although it is reserved for the second place. A successful filter for classical music, chamber ensembles and various light ambient.

Purple with damping. Quite a strange filter on the perception, like an emphasis on HF and HF, but the HF is muffled. Because of this, it is interesting to emphasize female and high male vocals, but the feed, for my taste, is quite strange.

Dark grey. I understand that this is a "reference" version, exactly the sound that Trinity engineers consider to be the standard (although I may be mistaken). The sound is lightly inclined into the darkness, with a carefully podprovalennymi HF, projecting somewhere in between the golden with damping and the usual silver filter. The bass is smaller than in the silvery version, and a little more than in the golden one, but it is slightly deeper and due to this it is perceived more weight. In this case, LFs are better controlled and leave "space for maneuver" MF, which are slightly softened, but do not lose detail and emotion. HFs are reserved for the second plan, there are just enough of them to compensate for the rest of the range and at the same time not to irritate the hearing of HF fobs.

In general, there is something to choose from, especially taking into account the fact that the nozzles also affect the sound (I stopped at large single-flange ones). The first time I went with the "reference" dark gray filters, they give a nice, slightly softened sound, but then changed them to ordinary golden ones, I think these two pairs of filters are the most sensible ones, but, of course, everyone has different tastes.

One of the most interesting questions for me was how these headphones perform against the background of older brothers. It turned out very good. Of course, the Phantom Saber with their push-pull emitters is a significant step forward, they better control LF and MF and have less distortion, which makes the sounds better outlined and the effect of a "black background". Vyrus offer a more "tasteful" sound, where technicality sometimes replace the added emotions. In general, in some cases, the feeding of the younger model can really be preferred to the older one, but this is exclusively a taste aspect.

Compatibility

Vyrus works very well with midrange players, so you can listen to them with different tablet phones, but their potential will not be fully revealed. It is better for them to choose a player with a neutral feed, without undue emphasis on emotions.

Genre headphones are universal enough, you can always wind a filter that fits a certain style. Of course, more expensive models will be better, but in its price segment Vyrus is one of the most universal offers. To the quality of recording headphones are moderately sensitive, somewhere by 7 points out of 10.

Traditional sample tracks

John Coltrane - Locomotion. Against the background of the famous "A Love Supreme", "Blue Train" sounds more strictly and less avant-garde, but it's the same Coltrane that we love - incendiary, unpredictable and energetic. Vyrus with golden filters copes well with the transfer of all instruments and pleasantly accentuates John himself.

Magma - Aurae. "Magma is such a magma" - that's what you can say about this track. In the beginning, we are waiting for some strange songs, then - a fragment, as if created by the classics of British art-rock, but already at 3 minute fascinating controlled chaos begins, for which this collective is valued. Vyrus with dark gray filters is exactly what allows to adequately convey this musical madness.

Waltari - Move. I'm willing to bet that in the history of heavy music, eclecticism has never been more successful than the album "Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die! "From Waltari. Where else at the beginning of the track does the symphony orchestra enter, on top of which the vocalist starts rapping, accompanied by almost operatic female vocals (by the way, thanks that they did not take the highest voice), and then it turns into blast-bits interspersed with scratch? And already on the next track of the listener there is also a real growling on the verge of a scream ... At the same time all this wild mishmash sounds whole and exciting, and the lyrics - pleases with its depth. Well, to finish everything, Waltari at one time showed it as a theatrical performance with ballet and other "buns". In general, a work that expands consciousness and is mandatory for acquaintance with all metalheads. Vyrus in this case it is better to equip with golden filters, in this variant they are best suited for such eclecticism.

conclusions

Trinity has a very interesting model, everything has been well-chosen: price, sound, a set of accessories. What is important, the division of models into price categories is observed, so that the choice between Vyrus and the more expensive Sabre is simple enough. In general, how I would not like to avoid banalities, but I must say that the segment to $ 100 received a new, very strong player, offering many unique opportunities.
