Trinity Audio has been delighting audiophiles for several years with its proprietary approach, which is based on several whales: metal cases, tuned sound and affordable price. Recently, they were joined by two more, who received the maximum embodiment in the new model
Actually, the first of the two new "chips" is the interchangeable wires. They appeared in Trinity in the previous models, but it was in Saber that they finally came to an understanding of what connector they would use next (and no, it's not MMCX).
The second interesting feature is the use of two dynamic emitters in a push-pull configuration. This idea is quite popular, for example, in car audio, but in the portable it began to fall relatively recently, in many ways just by the efforts of Trinity. Actually, the essence is quite simple: we take two dynamic radiators, turn them on in antiphase and place them in membranes to each other, and we get a construction that justifies the name. When one radiator pushes the air from itself, the other at this time performs the opposite action and "pulls" it on himself. This allows you to improve control over the mass of air, which must be "pumped", which potentially gives a more detailed and massive sound, especially on the lower half of the frequency range.
To this scheme Trinity added what is used in other models - tuning sound with the help of replaceable sound guides, aluminum case and a traditionally chic delivery package. The price list is fairly moderate, on the official site you can buy Phantom Saber for $ 166.

Packing and delivery kit
With the box everything is quite traditional, except that the valve is now located not from the side, but from the bottom. In the rest everything is about the same as it was - a dark gray color, a transparent window to see the headphones. But under the cover we are waited by the real revelry of gluttony, Trinity Saber precisely established an absolute record for the number of accessories. Judge for yourself.
- 4 metal cover-tubes with filters, in each there are 2 pairs of filters of different lengths. Another 2 filters are installed in the headphones and two lie separately. Total - 10 pairs of filters
- Snake Case
- 4 pairs of single-flange silicone attachments and a pair of flanged
- 4 pairs of SpinFit attachments in a separate package
- 2 pairs of Comply Foam Nozzles
- cable clip
- adapter to 6.3 mm and adapter from a straight plug to the corner
- 3 wires
Yes, I was not mistaken, in combination with these headphones there are 3 different cables. One in a cloth braid with a headset and two twisted, they differ in the presence of areas with a memory effect near the plug. That is, if you like the option with zaushinami, you take one wire, if you want without zaushin - the second. For mobile - the third. In general, freedom of choice and insurance against torn wires.
Design and Convenience
Headphones really look great and immediately attract attention. The cases are made of chrome-plated aluminum in the form of flat cylinders. Mirror coating looks impressive, but collects fingerprints, although on this occasion you quickly stop sweating. Sound guides are made interchangeable, they contain filters for tuning the sound, they are kept on the thread, so the replacement is not a problem. Each filter is available in two versions - shorter and more original, you can choose the option that will ensure you a better fit. I came more short.
The headphones are not very big, but the round shape looks rather controversial, I did not have any problems with the planting of the problems, but they need to first try on the owners of very small ears. In my ears they sit comfortably, do not stick anywhere anywhere, they can be worn with comfort for a very long time. Sound insulation is slightly worse than average, but depends on the selected attachments.
As I wrote above, the wires are replaceable, using a not quite standard two-pin connector, which provides a good fixation. Trinity tried out different versions of connectors, and this one was recognized as the most problem-free. The plug is tight enough, even with considerable effort, I could not insert it until the end, there was a small gap between the plug and the case. However, this did not affect the reliability of the connection. The cords themselves are good, in soft black insulation, harden in the frost, but not much, the microphone effect is poorly expressed.
In general, the build quality is not bad, there are no flaws in performance. With the metal casing and replaceable wires - headphones can please the owner for a long time.
Sound
The following equipment was used for listening.
- NuPrime DAC-10H and Resonessence Labs Concero HP as DAC and Amplifier
- Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2013 as a source
- Fidelia as a player
- Lotoo PAW Gold, Fiio X7 and Luxury & Precission L5Pro as portable players
- High Definition Records in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)
Before listening to the headphones were warmed for 48 hours.
One of the main features of the headphones from Trinity is high customization. The developers decided that listeners better know what sound they want to get, and left it to the users themselves. In the Phantom Saber, there are a lot of possibilities for adjusting the sound: 5 pairs of replaceable filters allow you to vary the amount of bass in a wide range, and the nozzles make it possible to tune everything else. After lengthy experiments, I stopped at the second from the end of the number of bass purple filters (less bass only in gray) and conventional silicone nozzles, with this set I will describe the sound.
Low frequencies have a pleasant density and power, not characteristic even for dynamic radiators, while they have a good detail, though not reaching the reinforcement one. With purple filters deep bass is reserved for the background, but for most styles I listen to it is a normal feed, allowing to remove excessive head and unnaturalness created by it. Fans of deep uterine woofers may well use more basophilic filters, getting such a coveted drum massage. Due to the good control of the bass, the instruments of the lower register are fed with weight and with normal separation.
The midrange frequencies on the AFC are a little secondary, but, strangely enough, this does not affect their perception and the construction of the scene. The midrange of this model is clearly one of the leaders among the dynamic headphones, they combine the best of the world with dynam: musicality and wholeness of filing, avoiding drawbacks such as blur and low resolution. In other words, the middle frequencies here are emotional, they have good microdynamics and detail, but they are not as sharp and contrasting as they are at the armature. A small peak of AFC in the region of 2 kHz separately emphasizes the vocal. The imaginary scene in these headphones is about average in width and more in average in depth. The tools have a normal size and are well separated.
The upper frequency range in these headphones is the main stumbling block. The Phantom Saber made a notable dip in the region from 4 to 8 kHz, cutting off all hints of harshness in the area of the lower sibilants, but to make the sound not very cloudy and sluggish - from 8 kHz the peak begins, reaching about 12 kHz. In total, this gives a moderately comfortable HF, but at the same time sounding with a touch of unnaturalness. In the case of poor record quality, such tuning is beneficial, listening to them in Saber is quite pleasant, the same goes for most "mass" styles. " For high-end recordings of complex music, these headphones are not very suitable. Resolution and development of HF - normal for this price range.
A few comparisons
Dunu Titan 1. Saber are characterized by better sound insulation, a more powerful bass and softer midrange, Titan 1 will in turn benefit from a more natural HF transmission (however, for people sensitive to this part of the range, this is a minus sign).
Dunu Titan 3. Saber is definitely better at working out LF and less detailed MF (Titan 3 of them are served more monitoredly). The upper frequencies are also better developed in the Titan.
Trinity Atlas. Hybrids from Trinity sound more typical for a mass listener - dense dynamic bass, reinforcement MF and HF, if you compare, then Saber bass is more lively and less pressing, MF is worse in resolution, HF is less quantitative.
Compatibility
In general, the headphones are sufficiently swinging by any source, including mobile phones and tablets, although it clearly shows the use of middle-price players with no emphasis on LF. The same Cayin N5 - quite suitable for them a pair.
About the stylistic features of the model I wrote above, Saber is quite good on most styles, except for the complex orchestral classics, although at first their submission may seem a bit unusual. Sensitivity to the quality of records is moderate, somewhere by 5 points out of 10.
As usual, several tracks in the role of example
Metallica - Hardwired to Self-Distruct. The first track from the upcoming album of the once great band does not inspire much optimism because of its primitiveness and straightforwardness, but at least it is well recorded and shows Saber from the best side: dense low frequencies, melodic MFs - what is needed to transfer high-speed drums and guitar cuts.
Dire Straits - Romeo & Juliet. Another example of music that is well suited to these headphones: a full supply of MF allows you to enjoy all the nuances of vocals and virtuosic parts of the guitar, and powerful low frequencies create the basis for the melody.
Juno Reactor - Zombie. And again the track, well suited for headphones: LF directly "rock", MF is suitable for wagering the rest of the melody, HF - moderately shade it all. If you use more bass filters, the result is satisfied even by the ardent fans of LF.
conclusions
An interesting model that sets a new trend in the market. I think in the future we will have more headphones with a similar configuration of emitters, and not only from Trinity. However, they also aimed at a whole line of hybrid models, in which two dynamic drivers are supplemented with reinforcement, so I'm waiting for their new products with impatience. Saber, in spite of some ambiguity of the HF, turned out to be also an interesting, though not entirely universal, model, which many will have to taste.
