Headphone review MEEAudio M7Pro - for rhythm section

Model M6Pro, released MEEAudio several years ago, was a real hit. Inexpensive headphones with a removable cable, designed for stage monitoring, could not but become popular with budget-minded musicians. Recently, MEEAudio decided to update their hit, releasing a more advanced version, called M7Pro.

In the development of a new modification MEEAudio decided to take into account the feedback received from musicians actively using M6Pro, so there were several changes. First, the cable connectors were replaced with standard MMCX, because they are the most common option in monitoring systems. Secondly, the sound was ottyuningovan in the direction of increasing the bass and reducing the HF, because the main target audience of the model - drummers and bass players. To do this, the company decided to use a hybrid circuit with a large dynamic radiator and a single "armature". These changes affected the price, so the M7Pro sold for $ 150, which is 3 times more expensive than the M6Pro. Thus, we are not talking about an "upgrade", but about the appearance of a more expensive model that will co-exist with the "six".

Specifications

  • Emitters: 10 mm dynamic + with balanced armature
  • Frequency range: 10 Hz - 20 kHz
  • Impedance: 16Ω @ 1 kHz
  • Sensitivity: 93 ± 3 dB / mW @ 1 kHz

Packing and delivery kit

The headphone box is similar in design to the package of the younger model, but is made more strictly - with the opening flap on the front panel. Inside are the headphones themselves, a large case on the snake, a pair of wires (with and without a headset), two pairs of foam nozzles, 4 pairs of nozzles of different types, a clothes clip for fixing the cable on clothes, an adapter for 6.3 mm and various pieces of paper.

In general, the delivery package is very good, and the packaging looks quite "on the level".

Design and comfortable wearing

The appearance of the model is similar to the "younger brother" in the face of M6Pro. The same small ergonomic body, made of transparent plastic, through which you can admire the interior of the model. A small size and a reasonably selected shape allow you to comfortably put your headphones in almost any ears. The soundtrack is long enough to provide sound insulation above the middle, especially with multi-flange nozzles. The appearance of the headphones slightly spoil the internal seams and ribs of rigidity, but the build quality is quite good.

The complete wires are made quite simply: smooth silicone insulation does not harden in the cold, little microphone and is not prone to tangling. Near the connectors are made areas with the effect of memory, allowing you to adjust the "zaushiny" as you would be convenient. The splitter block and the connector are very reliable, in general, reliability is the main thing that developers wanted to achieve from the wire. Very interesting looks garnuturny cable, the unit with the microphone is made translucent, so you can see what's inside. Thanks to the use of MMCX connectors, you can easily find a replacement for a standard cable or vice versa - use the wire from this model with other headphones.

Sound

The following equipment was used for listening.

  • Yulong DA9 and Resonessence Labs Concero HP as DAC and Amplifier
  • Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2016 as a source
  • Fidelia as a player
  • Lotoo PAW Gold, theBit OPUS # 2 and iBasso DX200 and others as portable players
  • High Definition Records in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)

Before listening to the headphones were warmed for 48 hours, noticeable changes in the sound was not observed.

"Previous" model in the face of M6Pro was different monitor, partly bright sound, so during the finalization before the company was the task of adapting a new model for interesting main consumers - musicians, and mainly representatives of the rhythm section. Therefore, in M7Pro added low-frequency and picked up the peak on the HF, getting a very V-shaped frequency response.

Bass is the dominant in the sound of these headphones. Qualitatively it is not bad, there is also a normal speed that facilitates the transfer of textures, and the density that many like so much, but there are a lot of it. In many respects this is the "fault" of deep low frequencies, which this model does not attempt to hide (after all, they are important for the target audience), so there is a feeling that the bass is always present in any composition, which is not always appropriate. Although, of course, lovers of powerful LF, such a pitch can please.

SC would be very good, if not turned out to be regularly blocked by bass. Regarding the "sixes", M7Pro takes a step forward in terms of the naturalness of the transfer of vocals and instruments (only it was necessary to remove the high-frequency peak). Not bad emotions and microns of recording are transmitted, but not always it turns out to hear, especially on the rich music. The imaginary scene is traditionally small, as most of the dark models of the M7Pro gravitate toward intimate filing.

HF here is absolutely not tiresome, despite the small peak they are not sharp, and this is done by quantitative reduction, and by smoothing the attacks. Fortunately, in MEEAudio did not begin to push the HF somewhere very far, they still are present and slightly balance the bass, however, not enough to shift the flow in the direction of light.

Comparisons, I will not give, because the M7Pro headphones with a noticeable dark color of the sound, so almost all the comparisons are reduced to "completely different."

By the way, JVC's Spiral Dots are a bit of a bass, making the M7Pro serve a little closer to neutral.

Compatibility

Headphones can be listened to with any source, low impedance in them is compensated by low sensitivity, so with smartphones will be quite loud, and with powerful players background noise will not interfere. In general, a super-class source is not needed for these headphones, they will still play in their own style.

Genre headphones, naturally, tend to those styles where the prevalence of low frequencies is important. To the quality of the record, they are moderately critical, according to the traditional 10-point scale, somewhere around 6 points.

conclusions

In general MEEAudio made another monitors for musicians. M7Pro are not intended for listening to music by audiophiles (however, they may like lovers of LF), so do not expect them to "typical" sound. The headphones that are made for the drummers and bassists sound exactly as it should be to the musicians themselves. And for music lovers, MEEAudio has new Pinnacle P2, which I will soon talk about too.
