Headphone review Brainwavz B200: one "armature" is good, but two?

It seems that a new niche has been found in Brainwavz, which they plan to occupy with the utmost care - headphones with a balanced armature. The company has not represented anything in this segment for a long time, and now three models appeared at once, identical in everything except for the filling. I examined the average B150, it's time for the older B200.

Developers Brainwavz decided not to bother much and made the entire line of "fittings" the same shell, the same box and even one for all the package. Such thrift justifies itself in the budget segment, but for B200 the company wants a full $ 200, which is a completely different level of prices, it's enough to look at MEEAudio P1 to understand what can be offered to the buyer in this category. Of course, Brainwavz often carry out sales, for sure they will affect the flagship model, but this is a matter of the future, while I proceed from the announced price on the official website.

But let's still not judge the book on the cover, for this you need to get acquainted with the headphones closer.

Packing and delivery kit

The box here is the same as for the younger models: black with a dark-burgundy design. Polygraphy is minimalistic, but due to interesting textures it looks good. There is a large hard case in the box, in which the headphones themselves lie, 6 pairs of nozzles of three different sizes, a pair of Comply ™ foams, a clothes clip for fastening the cable to clothes, a velcro for fastening the wire. Also in the kit there are different instructions with the guarantors.

By the way, Brainwavz gives 24 months warranty on its models, which inspires faith in their durability.

If you evaluate the delivery package, then for 100-dollar B150 it was good, for 50-dollar B100 - fine, but for the current model - this is already not enough.

Design and comfortable wearing

The appearance of the headphones also did not change with respect to the cheaper models. The same glossy plastic casings are black, the same bevels and bevels, in general - the company's designers did not strain (and they could at least change the color). The build quality is normal, but not ideal - there are minor flaws in the casting.

The B200 are worn behind the back of the head, and thanks to the long sound-guide they provide an isolation above the average, especially when using two-flange attachments (which will have to be found separately, because they are not included). They are worn quite comfortably and do not perform much from the ears.

The wire is moderately thin and non-replaceable, it does not harden very much in the cold and almost does not get tangled, the microphone effect is not very pronounced due to the BTE wear. Of course, in this price category, you already want to be able to replace the wires in case of damage, but Brainwavz decided that users will have enough and a 2-year warranty. On the wires near the hulls are formed earhooks for comfortable wearing, they do not have the memory effect, they can not be bent, but they cope with their task quite well.

In general, and here headphones slightly do not reach competitors on a price category.

Sound

The following equipment was used for listening.

  • NuPrime DAC-10H and Resonessence Labs Concero HP as DAC and Amplifier
  • Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2016 as a source
  • Fidelia as a player
  • Lotoo PAW Gold, theBit OPUS # 2 and iBasso DX200 as portable players
  • High Definition Records in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)

In Brainwavz they decided that for the B200 the best sound would be "good", and to do this, the headphones were made with a deeper bass and carefully "cleaned" the RF above 3 kHz. The result was very funny, from time to time I caught myself thinking that the B200 sounded not truthfully, but interestingly.

LF there is a lot, and they go deep down, pleasing the fans of low-frequency drone, which is often like mistakenly considered a sub-bass. The bass here is slightly dry-knit, but only a little, on the other hand - headphones are pleased with the speed and texture processing, it's their strength. Due to dryness, sometimes the B200 does not have enough "fat" impact, but this is largely compensated by the deep component of the low-frequency range.

SC is traditionally good for armatures, but sometimes the "lower bass" (sorry for this tautology) draws attention to itself, and therefore the headphones mostly sound a little "smoother", without the emphasis on microcontrast and sharp super-detailedization. Resolution MF - good, but not prohibitive, there is a traditional for the reinforcement drivers, the effect, but no frills. The imaginary scene is somewhere medium in width and slightly below average in depth. Working out plans is very decent.

HF is also made in a non-tensioning key, they are well-marked, although slightly simplified and "tidied up" so as not to strain the listener. So to say that there is absolutely no RF, it will not work out, but there is not enough air and lightness for the compositions, but it's a pity, because it would help to compensate for the LF.

If you compare the B200 with B150 (I do not see the point of painting a ton of comparisons, the B200 is quite specific in nature), then the B200 is deeper and slightly drier than low frequencies, slightly more emotional than MF and slightly larger than HF, although both models are not the best choice for connoisseurs of the "top".

Compatibility

The absence of a headset on the wire clearly shows us that the headphones are positioned as a solution for players of the initial-middle segment, rather than different smartphone-tablets.

Stylistically, I would recommend them to any music, except for the very brutal styles of metal and orchestral classics, where the lack of HF too much will make itself felt.

conclusions

Interesting sound model in the line Brainwavz, spoiled by the desire to save the company. If, for ergonomics and general sound, this model may well relate to its price range, then the package of supplies and design could do better. However, headphones are still worth choosing by sound, and not by sight, and here the B200 can please (though not all).
