If you evaluate the headphones exclusively in terms of the noise raised around them, then the Whizzer A15 and A15 Pro models would surely have become winners of 2017, or at least one of the main contenders for success. Unfortunately for the manufacturer, you can not earn money by talking alone, so let's understand what the ambitious already-not-quite-newcomer offers us.
Initially, I was thinking of making a general overview, including both models, both conventional and Pro, but having listened to them and comparing prices, I decided to split the opinion into two texts, too different models came out (at least to my ears ).
In general, Whizzer is a perfect demonstration of how quickly and swiftly a new brand can emerge in the market of headphones: excellent quality of performance, a good package, good sound (and in the case of A15 Pro - and at all excellent), at a very affordable price what young audiences can offer to listeners (however, it does not turn out at all).
Specifications
- Emitter: 10 mm, dynamic
- Sensitivity: 98 dB
- Impedance: 16Ω
- Frequency range: 4 Hz - 25 kHz
- Cable: interchangeable, with MMCX connectors, 1.2 m
- Weight: 8.9 grams
Packing and delivery kit
In creating the packaging of the first version of headphones, the developers decided to use the ancient Chinese wisdom: "The bigger the box, the better" and did not regret cardboard, plastic inserts and struts inside. It looks all very solid, and the package did not disappoint.
In the box except the headphones themselves and the wires to them you will find:
- two sets of 3 pairs of nozzles, some signed as "reference", the second as "transparent", apparently to puzzle the listener, what should he choose. But in fact the difference is small and consists in slightly different amounts of bass. Nozzles are fixed in a convenient metal plate-organizer
- spare foam filters in the sound guide
- tweezers for their replacement
- with a magnetic valve made of imitation leather
As you can see, by this parameter everything is fine pulling on almost "top" level.
Design and comfortable wearing
The design is still pleasant. Whizzer managed to make their headphones not like the others, but "in a good sense of the word." The hulls are a little unusual in the form of triangles with rounded corners look very interesting, and excellent performance adds a sense of solidity.
With the landing, everything is a little worse, but not critical. The Whizzer is not calculated with the angle of the sound guide, therefore some people (I'm among them) have an earpiece that does not fit snugly to the ear. In general, no matter what, except for soundproofing, this does not affect (and even on isolation - not much), but complaints about this are not only on my part. Plus, the "normal" version of A15 is slightly larger than standard headphones, so owners of small ears can not put them. I do not experience such problems with my average size of the auricles, A15 are very comfortable to wear, nothing does not rest and does not interfere. In general, using a non-standard cable, headphones can be worn and lead down, but the behind-the-scenes landing is still more convenient for them, especially considering the fairly massive cases.
Sound insulation is slightly less than average, but in everyday use on the street it is enough (the metro and road works with a jackhammer clearly will be an exception).
The wires are made interchangeable, MMCX connectors are used, the complete cable of stars from the sky is not enough, but in general it is done decently - not microphone, there is not much hardness in the cold, near the connectors there are zaushiny with memory effect. The connectors themselves are large, which provides good grip, so there will be no problems with detaching them. But in general, the connectors are not the tightest, although they can not be called weak either.
Sound
The following equipment was used for listening.
- Yulong DA9 and Resonessence Labs Concero HP as DAC and Amplifier
- Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2016 as a source
- Fidelia as a player
- Lotoo PAW Gold, theBit OPUS # 2 and iBasso DX200 and others as portable players
- High Definition Records in Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)
Before listening to the headphones were warmed for 48 hours.
In general, my opinion on A15 does not coincide with the "majority" of other authors on the Internet. Under most reviews that I read from others, the A15 Pro is more suitable, they offer a balanced sound, close to hybrid models, but the usual version of the A15 offers a rather noticeable emphasis on bass. Because of problems with landing, which, judging by the feedback on the web, are observed not only for me, the sound may change, so I spent more time listening to A15 than usual, using various complete and not very attachments, and also pressing them under different angles. As a result, the review was compiled on the basis of the most "unmoving" version with medium "transparency" nozzles and without pressing.
LF in the "spot" is markedly accentuated. Of course, it is not enough to be considered a basshead model, but more "traditional" level for headphones, which are recognized as more or less neutral. The rise of the frequency response goes almost to the very depth of the range accessible to the human ear, which affects the overall perception of low frequencies: they are massive and not very fast, they are smeared, as is the case with unsuccessful models, but I do not shine with their super resolution A15 the main horse is the mass. However, they can work out textures on unsupported low-frequency melodies well.
The mid-range is played out very well, but it suffers from a saturated bass, on its background the middle seems reserved and there is abandoned, although in fact, the MF has a normal resolution and a very effective balance between the analyticity and the musicality of the presentation. In general, if the bass did not dominate here (and he does not have other options, as the saying goes, "a rhino very badly sees, but with his weight - it's not his problem"), mid-range headphones would be a real competitor to the best representatives of the mid-price segment. The last thesis, by the way, is proved by A15 Pro, but about this another time. The imaginary scene is slightly smaller than the average in width and depth, which is typical for headphones with overly accented low frequencies, too massive bass substrate simply does not allow higher frequencies to do its job.
HF, fortunately, have a pronounced emphasis, without which it would be very sad. The accent is selected very carefully, on good records and quality sources it does not cut a rumor and does not give an unpleasant metallic echo, but neatly balances the presentation of the model, allowing the headphones to play good against aggression and micronuanses of female vocals. Naturally, there is no need to talk about an ideal working out of attacks and damping on high-frequency, but already at least a normally balanced number and good resolution is an excellent step for this price category.
I will not make comparisons this time, because it's not enough sense to paint a bunch of variants in the style of "not similar, less bass".
Compatibility
Since headphones have their own, markedly colored pitch, top sources are not needed for them, they will still play "in their own way". The main thing is to avoid players with a pronounced accent on LF or with darkened feeding.
Genre I would recommend a simple version of A15 for electronic music, jazz, non-heavy rock and pop - those styles where the underlined low frequencies will be appropriate. To the quality of the tracks, headphones are not particularly critical, the main thing is that the HF and HF are well spelled out. According to the conditional scale of "pickiness" I would rate them somewhere in 5 out of 10.
Traditional tracks as an example
Duke Ellington - In a Sentimental Mood . A wonderful jazz standard, thanks to the very decent MF heroes of today's review is revealed very well, and the underlined LF in some way go to his advantage.
Duffy - Warwick Avenue . Little known to us, but a beautiful singer from Wales and her main hit about parting. Because of the emphasis on HF / HF in A15, the female vocals in them sound very nice, and this song serves as a good example.
Erykah Badu - Appletree (2B3 Mix) . For those who, like me, miss summer and warmth - a little music for warming thoughts. Positive vibrations, sensitively captured and emphasized by the A15, sound very nice, giving the track a spectacular and driving the right mood.
conclusions
The first model Whizzer proved that they can make headphones very steep in form and with a good, albeit not ideal sound. For absolute success, they needed a more versatile pitch, and they did it, but about it the next time.
