It is known that under water, sound waves slow down very much, which makes it impossible to hear what is happening on the water surface without special devices. However, a group of international experts developed a simple device that allows you to hear people's speech above the water a few meters from the diver.
The point is that the loss of the sound wave pulse during the transition from the air to the water environment is about 30%, which prevents the human ear from normally capturing sounds. The new device is based on the use of latex particles, which are stretched on aluminum plates located on a special membrane. This special membrane is attached to the ear and increases the conductivity by a few dozen times, and the sound itself is practically not distorted, allowing you to hear everything that happens over the surface of the water. Scientists managed to achieve that the loss due to the sensitivity of the membrane is compensated, and make sure that these losses ultimately amount to no more than 6%.
It is not yet known at what depth and how it is planned to use the new device, because it is attached near the external ear canal, and the diver's ears should remain open so that the device will work properly.
