Review of the second generation of headphones MEEAudio M6Pro - monitors

Several years ago MEEAudio company "rolled out" a very popular model of headphones, called M6Pro . These IEM, fully justifying the name, were focused primarily on the poor musicians and sound engineers, who very much appreciated the novelty. Recently, the company decided to update its hit and changed almost everything in it.

To start a short digression into the story. The first generation of the M6Pro featured an interesting feed with an unusual neutral sound, but the main problem of the model was a very bright HF, which was not liked by everyone. The M7Pro released later focused on the "workers" of the rhythm section and offered an increased number of bass. The share of "audiophiles" went to the flagship company P1 , not without reason bearing the name Pinnacle. Do not forget about the athletes, for them, created and the usual M6, and a number of other models. There was not enough in the lineup of the only available model for ordinary lovers of listening to music that did not want to spend more than fifty dollars. And now this model finally appeared. By the way, about the prices: the new M6Pro saved the price tag of the first generation (yeah, just $ 50), and I suspect that the first generation will be out of production in the near future.

Packing and delivery kit

This time, the design of packaging was done without unusual moves, flaps and transparent windows: a simple box with a good polygraphy, made of plain cardboard. Open, by the way, it should be from below, then pulling the special valve for the contents. Accessories in MEEAudio clearly not regretted, in addition to the headphones you will receive:

  • two replaceable cables, standard and one-button headset
  • two clothespins for fixing the wire to the T-shirt
  • large tight snake cover
  • adapter for 6.3 mm
  • two pairs of three-petalled baits
  • a pair of two-petal baits
  • three pairs of single-lip nozzles

As you can see, already on the nozzles it is clear that the headphones were designed with a view to good sound insulation. By the way, a sticker to check the headphones for originality (traditionally it is necessary to scrape off the protective layer and check the code on the company's website) was added to the box, apparently, Chinese fans of counterfeit have already finished.

Design and comfortable wearing

In the "scenic" use of headphones, the main thing is what? Reliable fixation in the ears and overall strength of the structure. The developers have tried to best meet both of these needs. Made new M6Pro is still made of transparent plastic, you can choose between colorless and smoky gray options. The hulls were slightly recycled, they are now more drop-shaped, which improved both appearance and ergonomics. Inside, there are a few visible traces of glue, slightly spoiling the exterior, but the build quality is quite high.

The headphones fit perfectly into almost any ears (expectedly using a breech landing), providing both good comfort and decent soundproofing, especially with multi-flange attachments.

The wires here are still replaceable, and, as in the previous revision, a proprietary connector is used, reminiscent of that used in the chargers of some old phones. In general, the solution is justified - quality MMCX connectors are simply very expensive for headphones with this retail price, and substandard ones are worse than non-replaceable wires. The connector used as a whole has proved its endurance, and spare cables are sold by MEEAudio without any problems (they even have a variant of a wire with Bluetooth). In general, these headphones can be bought separately all accessories: nozzles, a cover, wires, even headphones. The company went even further and offers a special life replacement program: if something happens after the warranty period with M6Pro (no matter what), just write in their support, attaching a check, and you will be given a new pair with a discount of 50%.

But back to the wires. Stock cables are made based on the same principle of maximum strength: silicone insulation, internal reinforcement, large splitter, reliable corner plug. The main difference between the wires is the presence on one of them of a one-button headset with a microphone (by the way, quite good in quality). The headset unit is made transparent, so if you want, you can see its internal design. Both wires have areas with a memory effect, which make it possible to form convenient lugs for reliable fixation. Both wires are practically not micronized (for this it is worth to thank the behind-the-ear landing), hardens hard in the frost and is not inclined to get very confused. Stiffness is average, but it does not make discomfort in wearing.

Another MEEAudio find has been a removable external panel, now you can easily give your headphones a bit of personality. The faceplates are made of aluminum, fixed with adhesive base and securely fixed. At the moment, you can order the panels with ready-made drawings ($ 15, there are, in my opinion, 4 options), pads with engraving any text you want ($ 25) or any picture ($ 30), so that the space for creativity here is huge. I think that over time MEEAudio will expand the assortment of ready-made panels, I personally would like to see variants with veneer or carbon inserts.

By the way, according to technical specifications, the headphones are waterproof, with protection class IPX5, so that rain or sweat, without which a good concert is not enough, must survive without problems.

Sound

The following equipment was used for listening.

Before listening to the headphones were warmed for 48 hours, changes in the sound were, but only during the first 6-7 hours, the rest of the time I "warmed up" them rather for compliance with formalities.

If you briefly return to the first generation of this model, it can be noted that they were ottyuningovany in a very unusual for the price category style: neutral, detailed, without pronounced smoothness of HF. It was the "top" and was the main problem of that revision - bright, on some tracks, even the passing border of what is allowed. Of course, detailed and uncompressed HF is absolutely essential for recording control, but listening to music in them was not always pleasant. In MEEAudio, they decided to fix this problem and in the second revision they slightly smoothed out the HD peaks, trying to preserve the character of the model submission as much as possible. Also, they slightly lifted the MF, which went to the advantage of monitored feed, now the M6Pro is somewhat reminiscent of P1, which is a good bid for success.

Bass, despite the lack of a strong accent, attracts attention primarily due to the depth and density. LFs go down almost to the maximum depth for IEM. Of course, the control of this part of the range is not ideal, but they are quite in place and do not muffle other frequencies (if the track is not overloaded with a synthetic bass). The resolution of the LF is normal, it is not as high as that of the more expensive models, but for its price category it is very decent, the bass has normal massiveness and adequately conveys the textures. Sometimes I would like more biting, but this is already 3 times more expensive for the models.

SC here are neutral, very good in resolution, but without the slightest attempt at anything to embellish. Prior to the reinforcement feed M6Pro, of course, do not hold out, but in terms of impartiality it is quite similar to models with a balanced anchor. Permission is at a very decent level. As you understand, such a delivery imposes certain demands on the quality of the recording, you turn from an ordinary listener into an almost sound engineer, and all the more or less large recording problems will be noticeable. On the other hand - quality material will be revealed at a deeper level, with all micro-components and emotions. The headphones very well build an imaginary scene, it is not a record, but noticeably larger than the average in width and roughly average in depth. The separation of plans and tools is normal, but M6Pro does not try to artificially inflate the space.

The upper frequency range is still quite pronounced, but this time this expression does not go beyond the acceptable limits (although, of course, if you are sensitive to HF, these headphones are still not for you). The "top" here is quite detailed, the attacks are slightly sharper than they should be, but damping is worked out very well, adding melodies to lightness and airiness.

Comparisons, I will not paint, M6Pro is still headphones, very different from their "classmates" in the manner of filing, so the problem of choice is not worth it. If you want a neutral and detailed feed - the M6Pro is probably the most inexpensive option to get it, if you do not want it (well, for example, you listen to poorly recorded tracks), in this price segment there are enough other models.

Compatibility

The headphones can work with smartphones and tablets (and the headset wire in the package hints at that), but the humor is that on very bad phones they show the shortcomings of the sound path. However, these phones are not many anymore, thanks to the chipset manufacturers. In general, for these headphones, a player of at least the mid-budget level is desirable, starting with the same Cayin N3 and higher. Choose the source you need to your taste, depending on the purpose - to emphasize the nature of the model or, on the contrary, to smooth it.

Stylistically, the IEM is universal, but you'll obviously have to avoid bad entries, so they pick up 8 out of 10 scores.

Several traditional sample tracks

Jeff Beck - Cause We've Ended as Lovers. A little blues guitar will not damage any selection, but if we have headphones with a good scene and detail on the review - this track will allow us to clearly appreciate these merits.

Gotan Project - La del ruso. Well, now the track for demonstration LF. Drums and bass are not just in the foreground of the song, they are also surprisingly well recorded, which also emphasize the second edition of the M6Pro.

Parov Stellar - Hurt. And now let's combine everything: vigorous, deep bass, volumetric stereo effects, an interesting, multifaceted melody with an unusual vocal - M6Pro, albeit not perfectly, but very well cope here.

conclusions

Like art, the heroes of today's review have become closer to the people. So rare in the low-end price segment, the neutral feed, packed in a stylish case, moreover, and interchangeable wires in addition, not an option to carry in the summer on the beach?
